As a native to North Bay, I spent majority of my time as an athlete going from field to court. My love for sports and wellness started young and grew even more as I completed my Bachelor of Physical Health and Education at Nipissing University in 2015. After finishing my degree, I was intrigued by injuries and rehabilitation. This drive for further education sent me out west to Calgary Alberta where I completed my Certificate in Athletic Therapy at Mount Royal University. In 2018, I packed my belongings back up and moved back to North Bay. My dream has been to give back to my community and help those in need. Injury prevention and management are my passion and I wish to pass on my knowledge and expertise with you.

During the initial assessment, it is crucial to dive deep into what is causing the issue. Majority of the assessment appointment will involve observing walking patterns, functional movement, and strength deficits. All of this information is collected to discover what the CAUSE of the symptoms or injury derived from. It is best to correct the cause than to just treat the symptoms. Which is why during the assessment and treatments, you'll receive a bit of education about the anatomy of the body, why the body works the way it does, and how you can be a part of the solution!
90% of the follow-up treatments involve manual therapy. This means, hands on treatment for nearly the entire appointment. We will focus on reducing pain, improving range of motion and strength, and preventing further injury.
Manual therapy is a mix of massage techniques, trigger point therapy, traction, active release techniques, joint mobilizations, lymphatic drainage, passive and active range of motion, and stretching.
In this clinic, IASTM (Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization) and Myofascial Cupping therapy can be used to treat the client.
IASTM is a popular treatment for myofascial restriction. IASTM uses specially designed instruments to provide a mobilizing effect to scar tissue and myofascial adhesions.
Myofascial Cupping is a soft tissue therapy that involves the application of decompressed cups on the skin, creating a decompression effect that lifts up underlying tissues such as the fascia ( connective tissue ) and muscles, blood and other fluid, close to the surface of the skin. The cups may be left in place over trigger points/adhesions or can be used with movement. The movement of the cups may be passive (by the therapist) or active (by the client) using movement patterns.
Prior to any treatment technique, proper consent is obtained.
Exercise prescription is a major part of recovery and injury prevention. During the appointment, you will likely be given a set of evidence-based exercises to perform at home that are specifically chosen to improve any deficits that the Athletic Therapist has discovered.
